Facebook geo-targeting is the end of the world

The whole concept of geo-targeting and geo-fencing makes marketers drool. The reality is closer than you might realize, but comes with a host of privacy concerns. Here is a good article on the privacy concerns surrounding location-aware apps and services by TRUSTe, a vendor of online privacy solutions.

This article on the Focus website is an excursion into the dark side of the "marketing" potential of geo-targeting. Yes, Facebook wants to send you coupons based on where you're at. But other parties could be interested in your location too... the police, your spouse, you parents, your teachers and even Homeland Security. I'm checking on at the airport, so now would be a good time to rob my house.
